VFW Post 5744 is a Veterans Service Organization that helps area veterans in  need and promotes Americanism, Nationalism, and Patriotism in the Berwick, Lebanon, North Berwick, and South Berwick areas. The Post leads local observances of Flag Day, Loyalty Day, Memorial Day, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, and Veterans' Day. And, in conjunction with "Charles S. VFW Post 5744's goals parallel VFW National Goals; to increase our membership, improve communications, and reinforce our fundraising efforts. We are also striving to become more visible in our community.

Our concession sales efforts have provided greater visibility in our community; tying our recruitment efforts to these concessions programs have proven to be successful. The reintroduction of a Post Newsletter and the establishment of this Website are positive steps towards improved communications. And we're continually kicking around new fundraising ideas.

Along with the Town of South Berwick, VFW Post 5744 is sponsoring the USS WASHINGTON (SSN-787) during its 2-1/2 year stay at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. We're looking for new ideas for interacting with the sub's crew during their long stay.

VFW NLC Members - Renewing the Fight: Honor the Contract and Defend Veterans’ Earned Benefits

Good morning, Comrades: This week the Washington Post published a series of articles trying to malign our veterans and the benefits they have earned. Yesterday, your VFW National Legislative Committee members received the attached media kit to help your Departments fight this dangerous narrative in your communities. Please familiarize yourself with Commander-in-Chief Carol Whitmore’s rebuttal, the “Honor the Contract” response themes, the Myths & Facts, and the supporting graphics included here. These tools are designed to help the VFW demonstrate our unified front against those who seek to break faith with our veterans. This fight is inextricably intertwined with our other fights for our combat wounded who would be served by the Maj. Richard Star Act and against the scourge of predatory Claim Sharks who seek to exploit our veterans. Share these resources in any way that you see fit and use them to inform your personal story on why the ideas presented by the Washington Post and others who attack our benefits are so dangerous. The VFW saw these attacks coming. We have learned from those who came before us in the VFW who fought these tired narratives after both World War I and World War II, which is why we introduced our “Honor the Contract” rallying cry in December 2024. The VFW won the fight back then and we will win this fight today. If you have any questions, our VFW Washington Office stands ready to assist. Yours in Comradeship,
