Brian served in the United States Navy from 1991 to 1999, with a stint aboard the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) during a deployment to the Eastern Mediterranean, and then a tour with Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 125 (VAW-125) aboard the USS Saratoga(CV-60).

Following eight years of naval service, Brian transitioned to the New Hampshire Air National Guard, where he served as a full-time Active Guard Reserve (AGR) member until his retirement in 2015. During this period, Brian supported multiple overseas operations, deploying to Morón Air Base in Spain; Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar (twice); Manas Transit Center in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; and Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.

Brian joined VFW Post 5744 in 2024.
